  3. 'Perfect way to end memorable year'

David Moyes has been criticised by West Ham fans in the past but this performance epitomises all that he has accomplished at the club.

His side were ruthless - converting two of their three shots on target - and defended bravely at Emirates Stadium.

Each player was at their best, defending in pairs and throwing their bodies in front of Arsenal's weary shots, and they never looked like losing their lead.

It is the perfect way to cap off 2023 - a year which delivered a European trophy to West Ham - and they sit at the halfway stage of the Premier League season with 33 points for the first time in their history.

The only question remains is how they can produce performances like this against Wolves, Manchester United and Arsenal, but can lose so heavily at Fulham and Liverpool in the same month.

That thirst for consistency will be important as West Ham have shown they are capable of playing European football on a regular basis.

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse ,speaking to Amazon Prime Video: " It's great to be part of a historic win for us.

"Before I joined the club I saw it as a hardworking club and that marries with what I believe as a footballer. That was key today too."

On assisting Mavropanos' header: "It's nice for me because throughout the week I have players coming up to me telling me 'I want it here, I want it there' [for corners] We put a lot of work into it, and it's good it came off.

"When I was a kid, I wanted to be the Beckham coming through. Now it's about making sure my practice is specific."

On the start to life at West Ham: "It's been fantastic. I have worked under a lot of managers now and gained experience. Working under the gaffer is brilliant for me and I've learned new things. It's fantastic to be part of this team.

"I think we have given ourselves a good start. We don't want to get carried away.

"I think the club has had that taste of success and you want to build on that. I would love to get back into Europe and prolong our European journey. We have had a really good start to the season and we don't want to get carried away with it.

"We will enjoy the New Year's celebrations in the right way and get ready to go again."

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to Amazon Prime Video:

"Football is played in many ways and tonight we did the part that maybe isn't talked about as much. Brilliant defending. We did a good job on Arsenal tonight. They had lots of the ball, too much for my liking, but we did a great job.

"We have had an unbelievable year at West Ham. After the World Cup, we got better and we sold one of our best players to Arsenal. We've continued it., and we got a trophy too."

On the impact of his summer signings: "Probably all managers live or die by recruitment. If you don't get recruitment right you struggle. I think the new players have been so great. Great credit to the players for what they have done in a year. Great job really."

On his future: "We are getting ready to talk. I don't think any of us are getting it done too quickly. I don't see any problems with that."

  9. Post update

Interesting comments from David Moyes about his future at West Ham coming up.

  10. 'The players give everything every game'

    FT: Brighton 4-2 Tottenham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (7)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Amazon Prime: "We probably looked a little bit tired and I've got to be fair on the lads, they've put in a hell of a shift over the last few weeks.

"We looked a little bit leggy but Brighton have been a very good side. We hung in there until the end and I can't fault the effort.

"The team continues to show character. But we lacked some energy tonight and against a team like Brighton that's going to cost you. We had a mountain to climb in the end. The good thing is the lads gave everything in the game and that's all I can ask for.

"We've got 10 players injured. The way we play, the players give everything every game. They're a credit to us.

"First half we were a little bit wasteful, but in the second half we created lots of chances, but so did Brighton.

"No lessons, like I said, all a new manager can ask for is for his players to give everything they've got and that's what I got today."

For some reason, it always seems like David Moyes is having to prove something.

For me, he is the perfect fit for West Ham. He has done a great job and he is doing a great job.

  12. 'Paqueta makes us a better team'

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (11)

    West Ham United

More from West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to Amazon Prime Video:

On Lucas Paqueta's injury:"He got it in the warm-up and when he came in we had a decision to make. He just felt something at the back of his knee. I didn't know how long he was going to last. He is such a talented player and he makes us such a better team.

"It was difficult because we could have probably said in the dressing room 'we'll make the change now'. Thankfully he came off."

On Jarrod Bowen as a striker: "Jarrod is learning his trade and there are parts that he doesn't do that an out-and-out number nine does. But whenever we go to buy a striker they are too expensive or we can't get one and there aren't many around.

"He played a bit at centre-forward for Hull. I can tell, I can see it in his eyes, he has that smell of the goal. I think he is probably disappointed to not get his goal. he is starting to get that look in his eye that he wants to score. He is a great finisher and he is a lot braver than people give him credit for."

On the January transfer window: "The injuries will always play a part. I don't think we have a great lot of cash. January is never an easy window. We need to see how the window is. It will be a loss for us with Mohammed Kudus going to the Africa Cup of Nations. He has been brilliant for us."

2024 aspirations: "We are not one of the top teams. We are trying to get up and grow the team. For West Ham to be in Europe is a great period."

  15. 'We had so much dominance'

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (13)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to MOTD: "We want to be at the top and today we are very, very disappointed. We had so much dominance in the game. We are in a really good position. Today is a disappointing night. We have to pick ourselves up for a big game against Fulham."

On whether the first goal should have stood: "It is what it is. The technology we have at the moment is not clear enough if the ball is out.

"We dominated for 100 minutes. When we had big situations, we had players inside the box totally free. I think the players put an enormous effort in. It's a difficult dressing room right now but we have another game in 72 hours. This is football, we have to improve in certain areas."

No danger: Arsenal tippy-tappy football around the box with no end product all night was like back to the Wenger old days again. 4th spot looming.

  17. 'We have to improve in front of goal'

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (14)

    Arsenal

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It's one of those nights. We had a lot of chances and did enough to score some goals, but in the box we were not good enough. We take the good things and learn from the things we didn't do well.

"We created enough and had some big chances. We're together as a team. Its not about some players [not scoring]. We have to improve in front of the goal and it's down to the whole team to do that.

"I guess it was a close call [whether the ball was in play or out for the first goal]. Hopefully they have made the right call there. Still after that we had enough chances to win the game."

On where Arsenal are at the halfway point of the Premier League campaign: "It's not bad. We're up there and fighting. We are aiming to be better every day. We learned a lot from last season and gained some experience, and hopefully we can use that through to the end of this season."

  18. 'We played like a lion'

    FT: Brighton 4-2 Tottenham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (15)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi on Amazon Prime: "We played a great, great, great game. Tottenham are an incredible team. Before the game I said I have a big, big respect for Ange Postecoglou because they play incredible football. I am proud of our performance because we played a really good team."

On Pervis Estupiñán: "Yes he scored a fantastic goal. He made some mistakes in the build-up but it is a great thing he can play because we need him."

On Joao Pedro: "I think he was the best player on the pitch. His perforamnce was incredible and he played a great game. He played with incredible quality and attacked the space every time. I am happy for him."

On Jack Hinshelwood: "He is improving, he is older than his age. His personality and his attitude makes him an important player for us.

"We were unlucky in the their first goal and to play 70 minutes how we did, we have to decide what we want to be. For it we have to accept the last 20 minutes. We suffered because Tottenham are one of the best in the Premier League.

"We were leading 4-0 but after the first goal back we accepted this from Tottenham. We felt like a lion and for that I am happy with the first 70 minutes and for the last 20 minutes as well."

  19. 'The best time to score my first goal'

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Premier League: West Ham earn stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal (16)

    West Ham United

West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos speaking to Amazon Prime Video: "I think the best moment to score my first goal for West Ham and in the Premier League. We work a lot on the set-pieces, so it was great.

"It is an important win for everyone and for our boss. We are really happy."

  20. Post update

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Konstantinos Mavropanos scored his first PremierLeague goal to put West Ham 2-0 ahead. He is the first former Arsenal player toscore his first ever goal in the competition against the Gunners.
