It’s finally here: 1999’s Dino Crisis is coming to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers for free on October 15.

This underrated Capcom classic helmed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami involves some sort of … dinosaur crisis. It’s a survival horror action game (with guns for shooting dinosaurs and puzzles) that’ll feel familiar for retro Resident Evil fans. You will have to get the most expensive PS Plus tier to play it since it’ll be in the Classics catalog, but it’s a bit of a remaster, with up-rendering, custom video filters, rewind, and quick save.

There hasn’t been a Dino Crisis game since 2003, but it’s beloved for being just of the moment. It came on the heels of a decade full of Jurassic Park entries and knockoffs and multiple successful Resident Evil entries, so it’s very of that era. But with Resident Evil remakes doing well with both critics and players, and Capcom releasing Exoprimal, which is in many ways a Dino Crisis spiritual successor, maybe it’s time to giveDino Crisis a try.

You can get NBA 2K23 and more with PS Plus this June

Dino Crisis will finally be added to PS Plus next week | Digital Trends (4)

The three games that make up PlayStation Plus Essential's June lineup have been revealed. There are any major console exclusives or no releases included; instead, there's NBA 2K23, a Jurassic Park tie-in title, and an indie game inspired by classic samurai films.

NBA 2K23 needs little introduction, as it's the latest entry in 2K's long-running, annualized basketball video game series. This latest entry stands out from the ones that came before by deepening the controls an AI further, as well as adding a Jordan Challenge mode that chronicles Michael Jordan's career. Beware of some pretty intrusive microtransactions, though.
Also available this month is Jurassic World Evolution 2,a theme park management game that swaps out roller coasters and other festivities for dinosaur-related attractions. The management genre is a surprisingly great fit for the Jurassic Park IP, and this game even provides a bit of story context to fill in the gap between Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion.
Finally, there's Trek to Yomi, a very cinematic indie game. It's stylized like a classic black-and-white samurai action movie, which makes sense as it's telling a revenge story about a pupil trying to avenge their dying master. If you didn't play this game through Game Pass, it's now available on a Sony subscription service as well.
This certainly isn't the most exciting game lineup, but it still provides a wide variety of gaming experiences. NBA 2K23, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and Trek to Yomi will be available through PlayStation Plus from June 6 until July 3. Make sure you download May's PS Plus games before then too.

PS Plus adds Evil Dead, OlliOlli World, and more in February

Dino Crisis will finally be added to PS Plus next week | Digital Trends (5)

PlayStation Plus Essential's February game lineup was announced today, and it consists of four titles: OlliOlli World, Evil Dead: The Game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Destiny 2: Beyond Light. These games will be available to download starting February 7. Overall, this is a really solid batch of games.

OlliOlli World was one of my personal favorite games of 2022 because of its amazing level design and 2D skateboarding gameplay that only becomes more fun as you get better with the game. "Like the best games of the genre, it knows that easy-to-learn-but-hard-to-master mechanics, rewarding obstacles, and high speeds that test one’s reaction time are the hallmarks of a great platformer," I wrote in a four-and-a-half star review of the game last February.
