InGod of War Ragnarok,Kratos can equip a variety of armor sets that boost specific stats like strength, Vitality, and Runic abilities. On this page, you'll find a list of all the armor sets in God of War Ragnarok, and the best armor to use. 'Armor sets include Chest Armor, Wrist Armor, and Waist Armor, and these can either be found or crafted at Sindri and Brok's shop. In addition to Kratos' armor sets, you can also buy Atreus' armor at Sindri's Shop. His armor will also boost his skills and arrow abilities.

All armor can be upgraded to a max Power Level 9, and can only be upgraded at the shop. You will need to collect crafting materials in order to upgrade these items. All materials can be found in chests, in the water, or as enemy drops. Certain higher level resources can only be found by undertaking specific side quest Favors, or exploring high level regions to defeat tough enemies.

Once you upgrade a piece of Armor to Level 9, then you will be able to upgrade it four more times in the New Game Plus Mode.

The higher the upgrade level, the more stats the armor will boost. Stats include Strength (STR), Defense (DEF), Vitality (VIT), Runic (RNC), Cooldown (CLD), and Luck (LCK).

While each set of armor that you can find and equip in God of War is completely valid in its own right, certain Armor Sets or combinations of armor can work exceedingly well for certain encounters, boss fights, or playstyles.

We've compiled our picks for the best armor to use for different situations and based on different strengths - including Offensive, Risk-Reward, Defensive, and Healing. Also included are samples of the best gear to include with these armor sets to maximize your potential.

The Best Offensive and Punishing Armor

One of the best early game armor you can find that will still be viable long into the endgame is the Armor of Radiance Set. This set can be obtained as early as Chapter 4 - Groa's Secret once you are able to explore and loot the various Legendary Chests in The Barrens after the chapter is complete.

The main feature of the Radiance Set is the bracer and girdle's ability to trigger a Realm Shift upon evading at the last second - and unlike a lot of armor perks, it's entirely based on skill instead of a Luck activation. Since Realm Shifts will slow down time for up to 1.75 seconds after a well-timed dodge, you'll be able to effectively counter-attack any enemy you come up against, and can also use the slowdown to re-orient yourself, line up ranged attacks, or disengage from being swarmed by multiple threats.

The chest armor can further bolster your damage while under the influence of Realm Shifts, though it has a lower chance of activating - which you can either bolster by equipping attachments and enchantments with Luck, or swap out the chest piece for something complimentary to an aggressive playstyle like the Dragon Scale or Berserker Chest Armor.

Even better, pairing the Armor of Radiance with other Realm Shifting gear will allow you to extend your slowdown time, which can let you pile in an amazing amount of damage while enemies will be completely defenseless. We recommend at least one of the Weapon Attachments of the Nine Realms found from defeating Berserkers, the Rond from helping Birgir in the Vanaheim Crater, and the Hilt of Hofud and Enchantment gained in Chapter 13 - Creatures of Prophecy. With these, you'll be able to massively increase your time Realm Shifting, and chain them together for a huge damage burst. This can also be further empowered with at least 3 of the Alfheim Enchantments, and Emblem of the Nine Realms, and Momentum Stride to maximize damage during Realm Shifts.

Another impressive late-game armor set is the Dragon Scaled Armor Set, which can be crafted after arriving in the Vanaheim Crater following Chapter 13 - Creatures of Prophecy. This armor set vastly improves your damage with your shield, and also stores damage increases when blocking or parrying successfully. Even the Chest Armor alone is great when paired with other offensive armor. It will work well with all shield types, though we recommend the Dauntless Shield for its improved parry attacks, and Ronds like the Rond of the Nine Realms, Fortification, and Deflection all work well.

If you're looking to bolster the damage increase gained from the armor, you can also invest in many relics, like the Talisman of Meign, and also use Weapon Attachments that increase your damage output like the Pommels of the Undying Spark, and Furious Maul. You can also use Enchantment slots to build up stats you're low in, as well as the Muspelheim set and Sigil of Doom.

The Best Risk-Reward Armor

One early armor set that can be incredibly effective is Lunda's Lost Armor, which you can begin finding the materials for in the Vanaheim River Delta after Chapter 6: The Reckoning, by searching Red Coffins while undertaking Lunda's Mysterious Orb Favor.

This armor is a curious one, as it will allow you to poison enemies and deal extra damage - but only with bare-handed strikes, blocks, and parries. Poisoned enemies are weakened, lowering their power level and dealing less damage, making them even easier to defeat. However, since you can only poison enemies with your fists, you'll need to punch to build up the poison status and then swap to a weapon once they've been weakened, which may limit your moveset when trying to get your enemy fully poisoned.

Luckily, there are a few items to help bolster your effectiveness with this armor set. The axe's Banahogg Knob will increase your fist damage after precision throws, and the Rond of Purification can expel poison damage done to yourself upon your enemies. This can also be improved with the Hilt of Dainsleif Relic to cause more poison, and the Vanaheim Enchantment set to deal more damage to enemies with a status effect.

The absolute top tier of risky armor is Surtr's Scorched Set, which can only be obtained by completing the Final Challenges of the Crucible Trial in Muspelheim, and will require you to be at a high power level to stand a chance of winning. This armor lets you do more damage to enemies trying to attack you, and will reduce damage taken while attacking enemies.

The Hilt of Forsbrandr gained from completing the Eyes of Odin can help as it gives you an additional aura of protection, and you can further gamble with attachments like the Grip of Healing Harmony and Charging Assault Sauroter. You can also get 3 enchants each of the Helheim and Niflheim Set to gain a bonus to damage as your health is constantly in flux.

The Best Defensive and Healing Armor

While many types of armor will offer great defensive boosts no matter what, the Nidavellir Amor found early on offers a good mix of defense and vitality, with ways to increase your healing - and it can be found soon after entering Svartalfheim by exploring the Mining Rigs in Chapter 2 - The Quest for Tyr.

By gaining health bursts whenever you stun grab enemies, you can mix this armor with the Raven Tear Armor rewarded from finding Odin's Ravens to increase healing efficacy, or Giptumadr's Armor that makes healthstones drop more.

You can also use the Nidavellir Armor's reliance on stuns with the Steinbjorn Armor found from killing Trolls with the Mystical Heirloom to increase your stun damage, and can use other gear with stun effects like the Grip of Weighted Recovery, Pommels of Brual Might, Battle-Scarred Sauroter, and Rond of Restoration or Fortification.

Combine these healing effects with the Hilt of Tyrfing to sacrifice health for damage, or the Hilt of Gram to further stun enemies, and maximize your high Vitality using Enchantments like the Svartalfheim Set for more stun damage, Stone Idol of Souls, and Regenerating Essence.
